Competition News:
Latest Update 4 Ocotber 2008

Danielle Maurer (Auckland) on Guardami (Loewenherz) were comfortable winners of the hotly-contested young rider class, coming home three seconds clear of the opposition in the jump off.

The above partnership never competed last year after having some good runs the year before incl getting a place in a GP. Guardami must be about 9 or 10 by now. I heard thru the grapevine that Danielle had a bad fall or something (off another horse) and either had lost her nerve or something so great to see them out and doing well again

Congratulations to both of them!

Rakaunui Sabina (as reported on the Australian Trakehner Website)

It's impossible not to be impressed with by the movement shown by this purebred filly.  Imported to Australia from NZ, she is by Loewenherz out of the TB mare Steel Belt.

Loewenherz's dam, Liebchen V (from the Libelle 656 mare family) was imported as a new bloodline into NZ from West Germany and was classified as a Principal Studbook mare by the Verband, putting her in the top 10% of mares.     This line is renowned for producing good breeding type and above all excellent utilitarian characteristics.

Loewenherz's offspring have been the recipients of some excellent comments by Mr Eric Lette (Chairman of the international FEI dressage panel) and Mr Clements Dierks when ridden at clinics in New Zealand (source: Caitheness Stud, New Zealand). Loewenherz's sire, Polarschnee (imp), was bred by the famous Rantzau stud in Germany and stood at stud for a few seasons in NZ before being imported into Australia where he successfully competed at Grand Prix Show Jumping with Vicki Roycroft before a paddock accident ended his career.  Polarschnee is from the Polarfahrt mare family.  Polarfahrt was considered to be one of the best mares to have successfully reached Western Germany after the flight of the Trakehners from East Germany.   Among the many successful sporthorses sired by Polarschnee is the well known NZ bred mount Jagermeister ridden by Andrew Nicholson for the NZ Eventing team winning the Bronze medal at the Olympics in Atlanta, as well as competing in the World Championships in The HagueLoewenherz's dam, Liebchen V (from the Libelle 656 mare family) was imported as a new bloodline into NZ from West Germany and was classified as a Principal Studbook mare by the Verband, putting her in the top 10% of mares.     This line is renowned for producing good breeding type and above all excellent utilitarian characteristics.

Sabina is rising 2yrs in 2008.  She is fully registered with the NZ Trakehner Association and branded with the double moose antlers.  We are all very excited here in Australia to have this wonderful filly and look forward to updated photos and news of her progress.

Part-Bred Register

The TBANZ would like to invite owners of horses sired by classified/Aspirant classified branded Trakehner stallions to register their horses on the Part-Bred register.
The benefits are: They can become associate members, they will receive our three monthly newsletter and will have the opportunity to have their Part-Bred evaluated at one of our annual classification days. Also new for this season their will be awards given at selected shows throughout NZ to highest placed Trakehners and Part-Bred Trakehners. They will receive part-bred registration papers, which will be similar to the those of the pure-breds, this will only be a register and will not allow stock to be upgraded in any way, however we feel that it is important to include part-breds as they too will give great exposure to this unique breed.

The fees are as follows:
Associate membership $25.00 ($10.00/annum thereafter)
Horse registration fee $15.00

Please Contact The Registrar if you would like to register your partbred.

Loving Memory

I recently went to watch at the Grand National Champion Ship Show and was so very proud to see that not only did Monique III, win her show classes, and top six grand champion classes (very convincingly) but they also took out the Grand Prix Musical Dressage Title there. They certainly took everyones breath away when they entered and "PERFORMED" wow it was so amazing to watch them, so fantasticly gracefull and the music was so well suited to Monique III. I did manage to video the dressage however as I am on country dial up I can only provide a small taste of what this pair is capable off.

As Printed in the Bulletin on page 41:

After the Young Rider Champs the judges were asked to comment on the combinations they had seen, this quote by the Aussie judge Dr Ricky Mcmillan "(Ashleigh) Williams' ride on Rosalie Bakker's Rakaunui Gabriella was one of the notable performances of the tournament".

Reported by Rosalie Bakker:

Trans Tasman Derby held at the National Young Rider Dressage Champs held in Taupo this weekend. Two Loewenherz mares were involved in this derby along with two other horses. Each horse was ridden twice, once with an NZ rider and once with an Aussie rider. after the scores were announced the NZ team had won and of the horses, Rakaunui Gabriella (Loewenherz) was the top scoring horse and Rakaunui Sweet Deal (Loewenherz) was second. The atttached photos show the tow mares at prize giving ridden by the Two New Zealand riders with Charmain Pearson-White on Rakaunui Sweet Deal (With the star on the left) and Ashleigh Williams on Rakaunui Gabriella (on the right). Ashleigh Was first overall with Charmaine second.

“ Ben “ – French Falcon.

Here we are back for our second entry on the competition season,

In December, along with a friend, we made the trek down to Chch for the Canterbury Dressage Champs.

A very warm weekend saw us finishing with three 4 th placing's, in the novice grade- a mixed but pleasing weekend & a learning time for both of us.

Two weeks later we had the final day of the Marlborough summer series. With surprise & pleasure we learned that we had won the Novice Championship & to top the day off, also won two elementary classes,

With 67% & 63%.

Just to really top my December off, my husband Ian, brought Ben for me for my 50 th birthday- I couldn't’t think of a better gift.

We have no plans for competition in the immediate future this season, but will continue training in the Elementary grade.

A very happy new year to all.

Warmest Regards,  Robynne Fraser.

Woodfieldpark Luxurious
(Feuertanzer x Liebesgabe)

We wanted to get the kids out for a bit of experience so; Woodfieldpark Luxurious was entered in his first show of the season with pleasing results, he was entered in 4 classes and went home with 4 ribbons including a second place for best movement this was a very pleasing result. He was very well behaved and took it all in his stride, happily chatting away to anyone who wanted to pat him. I look forward to taking him out and about this season and perhaps even enter the yearling by Feuertanzer out of Liebelle for some experience.

French Falcon
(Falkensee x My French Affair)
Owner Shirley Culley

As Reported By His Rider Robynne Fraser

I started riding Ben in Dec 2006 a Prelim horse with 13 Novice points. We enjoyed competing in the Lucas Saddlery Winter Series in Blenheim, although we missed the first day due to Ben putting his foot through a feedbowl resulting in a swollen fetlock. We ended the winter series with the Novice Championship due to Ben's consistency and kind nature on cold mornings!

We have just completed a very successful weekend with the M.S Ford Sponsored Marlborough Spring Tournament our results are as follows;

Nov 2:1 67.5%

Nov 2:4 67.9%

Nov 2:3 64.8%

Nov 2:5 66.7%

We will travel around doing the circuit as per usual so will report in on our scores etc and any other positive news.

Obituary:

SOUTH POLE
Grey mare born 29 October 1986, died June 2007.
Sire: Polarschnee (Trakehner).  Dam: Sister Sarah (Thoroughbred) by Trelay

South Pole was purchased by the Ward-Smith family from Mrs McAuley as a gangly weanling.  The grand old mare, affectionately know as “Gran”, started her show-jumping and hunting career as a 5 year old in a back up role but it was not long before she was a regular hunter.  Catherine competed on her in round the ring classes and show-jumping during the summer and Ray hunted her in the winter, leading the field while Ray was Joint Master, a routine that continued for about 10 years, and a few more years just as a hunter until 2005.  During this time she won Champion Hunter at most Canterbury A & P shows and the coveted Renown Cup for qualified hunters in 1994 at Christchurch show and stable mate, Polar Magic (also by Polarschnee), was placed second the same year. Also a regular winning show-jumper up to 1.35m at shows throughout New Zealand and even tried eventing. She bore two foals, the last, a grey colt with stunning movement, still running with her when she died in the early winter of 2007.
